To be or not to be...
'You should be proud to speak in Spanish'
were my wise words to a very spoiled 6 years old girl yesterday.She was born in New York but her mom is from Colombia and her dad is from Ecuador.
She looked at me like: i dont give a fuck about Spanish and it hurt my feelings.
i know i speak most English than Spanish. I think in spanish sometimes, but the world i'm in is in English. Everything is in English and most people who live around my city are from Central America and they say they dont undertand me when I speak Spanish. So fuck it, i just go with the English language...
but this lil girl -my colombian friend's daughter- was just too rude to my roots.
All my life I wanted to live in the States. I've worked really hard to be where I am and to be who I am, but I never forget my Spanish. i still curse in Spanish and I'm trying not to speak Spanglish... but I love Spanish. it's just a beautiful language and some phrases and words have so much meaning in my own language than any other...
so it pissed me off that this girl was just like 'whatever' to her own roots. She was born here but her mom/grandma/dad... they all speak Spanish.
I'm not ashamed to be hispanic.
I'm not ashamed to be from Argentina.
That's who I am.
It's not a special day or anything. I just thought it'd be nice to note I'm proud to be hispanic and the roots i have.

Creo que es muy difícil para uno que no lo vivió, entender el desarraigo de otra persona de manera adecuada. Esta chica, si bien tiene antecedentes latinos, no es latina (es bien yanqui), y nunca va a entender el tema hasta que ella se vaya a vivir a otro lado.
No se puede generalizar diciendo que todos los que se parten de su terruño (me encanta esa palabra), son renegados de él.
Por lo menos así lo veo yo...jejejeje
Hola! aca estoy...yo otra q se "fue" jajaja...y hablo en spanglish casi todo el tiempo...jeje mi hija q nacio aca...habla los dos idiomas tb....y siempre le dimos importancia a ambos idiomas...porque si bien venimos de otro pais...vivimos en este pais...entonces...para no hacerla muy larga...porque el tema da para mas....creo es cuestion de saber obtener un equilibrio...nada mas...no dejar de lado las raices...y no dejar de lado tampoco el lugar donde vivimos. Muchos critican q en mi casa se hable los dos idiomas...mas q nada existe la regla: outside and inside...jeje creo q muchos la usan...afuera ingles, adentro castellano...y al menos a nosotros nos funciona.
