"Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend.
Not that it is necessary, in order to make known to God what we are,
but in order to enable us to receive Him.
Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him."
Ellen G. White - Steps to Christ
I was brought up in a Seventh-Day Adventist home. I went to a SDA school and for as long as I remember we prayed before each meal, and before going to sleep.
I was also brought up to marry someone from my own religion- and as you all know, my husband is not SDA.
I never talk about this coz it was MY desicion to marry him and go against what my teaching was. I knew it was gonna be hard and it's still a little hard sometimes when we start talking about our religious believes and what we think about some topics related to Creation, Jesus and the Cruxifiction, etc. However, we've (mostly I) learned to accept the other's perspective and opinion and not argue about major things. Gary had been very open about coming to church with me, and the few times we've gone together he'd enjoyed it.
Every Sunday we have the routine of waking up, reading
Postsecret.com, talking about the secrets and usually that lead us to talking about our past, childhood, etc. Few weeks ago we were talking about this and that and he said to me:
do you know this song... it's something about the soldiers of Jesus... i don't know how it goes, but it's like we're soldiers of Jesus... marching...
As soon as he said soldiers of Jesus I was like: OMG! may be he used to be a SDA when he was a child and he doesn't remember!!!!! So I started singing the song and he STARTED TO SING THE SONG WITH ME! It was so funny to hear him sing the same song! Then he said something about another song, and I also started singing that song and HE knew that song, too!!! (the other song was 'El hombre prudente su casa construyo' {I'm bad with my translation today, but it's something like the wise man built his house in the rock... something like that}).
Ever since we moved in together I've been praying with him at lunch/dinner time. I ALWAYS ask him whether he'd like to pray.
He always says: No, you pray...
But one day he did it... and you should have heard what a beautiful prayer he said. It filled my heart with joy to hear my husband pray, and I truly hope God doesn't stop working thru me to get to him. It's gonna be a hard walk, I know... but as Paul says: 'We can do everything thru Christ who strenghten us'.
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and whenever you open your hearts in prayers, pray for those who still haven't accepted Christ as their Saviour.
