Dumb...
We, as adults, try not to pay attention to things little kids say.
Sometimes we don't even care what they think about certain topics and we go on with our lives without paying any attention to them.
Today, that wasn't the case.
We were having dinner when Ryan said:
'Manuel is the dumbest boy in the whole entire world.'
I asked Ryan:
Why is he THE dumbest boy in the world?
Ryan:
Because he doesn't talk. He comes from South America. He speaks your same words.
I'm still bothered and hurt by his phrase... because he sees him as a 'dumb' boy just because he can't spell Englih words, or he can't do the things he does. Ryan is very bright, and to many people he's considered a 'gifted' child. But I don't see the GIFT when I hear him say things like that, and when I'm explaining how HURTFUL that is and he looks at me with a smile on his face, like HE DOESN'T CARE.
I'm bilingual.
I consider myself a bright person with a lot of talent.
I'm gifted also - in my own way.
The fact I speak FLUENT SPANISH doesn't make me dumb, or less than all fluent English speaking people in America... or wherever English is a first language!

I'm so sorry Ryan said that. Being from another country does not make a person dumb..Parents should really teach their children to respect a little more. Maybe I will have that talk with Hannah.
I asm so with you on this. Some kids can be very insensitive.
