Sponges
Ryan and Nikki are very smart kids, and i can't deny that some days they surprise me.
as they're pretending they dont understand me, i've started to speak to them in spanish.
Ryan knew some words: head, eyes, nose, mouth, hands, fingers, feet, sock, tongue and teeth. it sounds so stupid he knows all those words, but he does. so if i say: donde esta tu cabeza? (where is your head) he touches his head.
So yesterday i was telling them that i'm not talking to them in English anymore. Ryan was like, ok, whatever. i dont care.
Nicole was a little more: no Noel, please talk to us in English.
so this was my conversation with Ryan:
R. i dont wanna come out last of the bathroom.
N. ponete la toalla en la cabeza asi se te seca el pelo. (get your towel in your head so that we can get your hair dry)
R. i told you i dont wanna go out last.
N. no me importa que no quiereas salir ultimo. ponete la toalla en la cabeza. (i dont care if you dont wanna go last. put the towel in your head)
R. what is 'toasha'?
N. towel.
R. i dont like the word toasha
N. No es mi problema. ponete la toalla en la cabeza. (not my problem. get the towel in your head)
R. are these also toashas? (he pointed the hand towels)
and i just started laughing.
How the hell did he know that by adding S he'd get the plural of the word?
kids at this age are like sponges.
too bad i can't speak to them in spanish all the time, but i try.
peace out!
